That Hamilton Woman

Vivien as Lady Emma Hamilton

You are married and I am married and the magic and the music of the ballroom - these things become rather blurred - they stand out very clearly in the dawn. Your life is here. My life is there. We must obey the creeds and codes that we've sworn our lives to. I know that I must not come back. And I know that nothing in this world can keep me away…

The ill-fated romance is portrayed in this famous epic based on the real life story of Lady Emma Hamilton and Lord Admiral Nelson. An expensive historical drama that unfortunately is not the masterpiece it could have been, but is worth watching for the sets, costumes, and final battle sequence. The last of three films that Vivien and Laurence Olivier would make together.
